Presenting the 18th Annual Heritage Home Tour
Saturday, December 3rd, our 18th annual Heritage Home Tour once again presents some of Seguin's finest homes to the community. We are so grateful to the wonderful homeowners willing to open their doors and allow the public to get a glimpse of the interior of houses that hold so much of Seguin's history. This year's tour includes homes from the late 1800's such as that of Ron and Norma Colunga at 605 S. Austin and Terry and Nancy Daugherty at 623 N. Erskine. Also, we proudly present two homes from the early 1900's in Tim and Alix Neeley at 611 E. College and Terry and Corlea Plowman at 612 E. College. The Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre will be open for the tour with refreshments being served.

The cost of the one day tour is $10 with pre-sale tickets available at Gift & Gourmet, Keepers, Cascades and the Seguin Chamber office. The ticket holds the map to the selfguided tour with docents awaiting your arrival to tell you about each home. Tickets sold at the home on tour day are $12. We hope you will enjoy the tour and learn more about the architecture and styles of these houses along with changes that new ownership can bring.

Texas Theatre Site for Various Community Activities
A multitude of activities and performances have graced and continue to happen at the Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre.
"It is so inspiring to see so many people and groups excited about having events at the Texas," says Steve Tschoepe, management committee chair.
During the months of October and November, events have been held every weekend except two. From private birthday parties to children's shows, class reunions to country music shows, the Texas continues to be the hub of activities in downtown Seguin.
In October, the theatre hosted its first special event geared specifically for children. The talented Joe McDermott of Austin entertained children, and parents alike, with his songwriting and musical performance. Sponsors of the two shows were Alligator Dental, Cornerstone Pediatrics, First Commercial Bank, King Properties and Sugar and Spice Children's Academy.

Another new event was the Wine and Ale event on Saturday, Nov. 19. This special event gave guests the opportunity to taste selections from Winery on the Gruene, Branwar Wine and Dry Comal Creek Vineyard. Real Ale Brewery, HEB and several other vendors participated in the event. As part of the admission price guests received their choice of an etched wine or pilsner glass. A limited number of the glasses are available along with some gift baskets that would make a wonderful holiday gift. Contact the Texas Theatre office if you are interested in the glasses or gift basket.
The Texas Theatre kicks off the big Holiday Stroll activities in Seguin with a "Merry Texas Christmas Concert" by the Almost Patsy Cline band on Sunday evening, Nov. 27. The concert begins at 5 p.m. and is sponsored by IESI/Progressive.
Also during the first weekend in December the Texas Theatre friends group will be participating in the Holiday Stroll Parade. Their lighted entry will focus on the Friends who make the Texas such a great place to be. And on Saturday, Dec. 3, the Texas will host guests on the Tour of Homes.
The Texas Theatre is also proud to be hosting four Holiday parties in December.
"Yes, things are really happening at the Texas and it is so exciting," says Marty Keil, SCS president, "we are pleased to have a facility that the community has embraced and enjoys."
And the first part of 2012 appears to be equally exciting, Tschoepe says.
The ever popular "Driving Miss Daisy" will be presented on stage Jan. 13-15 and 20-22. The cast will feature the wonderfully talented Pat Hoppe, with Seguin's own Hugh "Papa" Douglas and TLU's David Legore. This will be a very entertaining production you won't want to miss.
Then on Saturday, Feb. 4 the Heart of Texas Road Show will present their second concert at the Texas. This highly popular show travels all over the state and performed to a sold out crowd back in August when they were here. The tentative lineup includes country music's Johnny Rodriguez and Seguin's own Dottsy. Tickets will go on sale after Jan. 1.
Over a dozen other bookings are scheduled for 2012 and we know that number will grow substantially, Tschoepe says.
Message from the President
Dear Fellow Conservanists,
Fall is here and it has been a busy one for us. Pecan Fest was a great success at the Heritage Village. We had lots of visitors enjoying our quilt show, pecan art, pottery making and viewing with Wilson Pottery members present. Children enjoyed art with the Seguin High School art students and a train ride up and down Live Oak street. There was a variety of pecan goodies available for purchase.
Plans for the upcoming Heritage Home Tour are being finalized. So many look forward to this event each year and we are happy to say we can still find homeowners willing to share their beautiful homes with our community. A tremendous amount of effort goes into this tour each year and it has become one of those happenings that truly announces the Holiday Season to Seguin, along with the Holiday Stroll.
We are pleased to participate in the Downtown Business Alliance Sip and Stroll this year and have the Mid-Texas Symphony/Texas Lutheran University Youth Choir performing at the First Church on Dec. 2nd from 6:00 to 6:45 for the pleasure of all those strolling the area. The Heritage Village will be aglow with candle and lamp light to enhance that quaint tradition of carols to welcome in the season.
We hope you have responded to our membership letter you recently received. We depend on your support to continue our mission in Seguin, preserving and protecting buildings that hold our heritage and tell our stories.
Happy Holidays! Marty Keil

Funds Still Needed To Complete Theatre
As more work is needed to complete the Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre, your donations can make a difference.
"There are a number of things that we need to complete the project," says Steve Tschoepe, Task Force Chairman, "we still need to have seat sponsors and a limited number of stars are still available."
Also needed are funds to complete the two balcony light fixtures and one large lantern in the main auditorium. "We really, really want to complete these projects. While we are able to use the facility and for the most part it looks great, people do ask us when the other light fixtures are going to be hung," Tschoepe explained.
"If you would like to sponsor a star, seat or light fixture, or even a part of a light fixture we would welcome your donation," all donors are recognized on our donor wall. If you would like to make this donation as a Christmas gift an appropriate certificate or acknowledgement will be sent to the recipient honored. Donations may also be made in memory of a loved one," says Tschoepe.
If you have any questions about any of these options, you make contact Tschoepe at 401-1971 or Marty Keil at 560-6291.
Moore House Luncheons Share Collections
The Moore House has enjoyed luncheons this fall with themes for each month to bring in displays from the community. In September we rang in our first luncheon with "Bells" from a collection of Mrs. Edith Blankenship. October was a month for "boxes and baskets" of all shapes and sizes courtesy of Betty Blankenship, Jan Quello, Marty Keil and Mary McDonald. In November we viewed needlepoint, cross stitch, smocking, quilting and other handwork with contributions from Marti Dwyer, Cliftine Dwyer, Sharon Steinberg, Carolyn Sagebiel and Mary McDonald.
December will find the Moore House in all of its' Christmas finery with Betty Blankenship sharing her collection of Santas and St. Nicks. Our sponsor and servers for this luncheon will be Mickey Ferrell Realtors and All Occasions will bring us the meal of stuffed pork loin, squash medley, salad and roll with a variety of desserts to follow. We will also enjoy Christmas music provided by Helen Martinson and Tom Engler. Call Cascades to make your reservation for the 11:30 or 1:00 seating by Tuesday, Nov. 28th.
Moore House luncheons will resume in February with a display of painted china and we will bring other fun themes through the spring. Bring a friend and join us on the first Thursday of each luncheon month as this tradition in the Moore House continues.

If you received a newsletter by mail, please look at the membership year printed on your mailing label. Due to increased costs, the Conservation Society may need to reduce the size of the mailing list by dropping those who have not shown interest in renewing their membership or making a donation to The Texas Theatre or the General Fund. Moore House Luncheon Committee Needs You
Hosting a monthly luncheon in a historic home is not for the faint of heart. A dedicated group of volunteers works hard to make each Moore House luncheon a delightful experience for all who attend. Can you see yourself joining the Moore House committee to handle one of the many monthly tasks? Could you give an hour or so once a month - and take the summers off?
In the days before each luncheon, could you be the one who calls HEB to reserve flower bouquets? Makes the seating chart from the reservations made at Cascades Gift Shop? Compiles the hostess list? Shops for supplies? Picks up the welcoming poster from Lone Star Printing? Sets up for the luncheon by placing tables and chairs in the correct places? Sets the tables? Arranges the flowers? Takes coolers to Tri-County A/C to fill with donated ice? Cuts up lemons and limes for tea?
On the day of the luncheon, would you come to the Moore House at 9am to make coffee and tea? Sweep the porches? Arrange the welcoming poster on an easel? Set up ice chests in various rooms? Count out plates to be warmed in the oven? Put dishes on tables? Cut up desserts? Serve meals from 11:30am until 1:00pm?
After each luncheon, how would you like to enjoy lunch with that day's helpers and servers? Then clear the tables and clean the Moore House kitchen. Clean the floors, empty the ice chests, and gather equipment to be picked up by All Occasions Catering. Perhaps you'd be the one to collect all the towels and aprons and take them home to wash them for the next month's luncheon.
Moore House luncheons are an important fundraiser for the Seguin Conservation Society to provide the means to maintain one of Seguin's stateliest historic homes. If any of these volunteer jobs appeal to you, please call Mary McDonald at 401-4543 and join the Moore House team.
