Texas Theatre Star Creates Lasting Legacy

Judy Vader Donation

When the Texas Theatre re-opens, the decorative stars on the ceiling will be dedicated to specific people: those who gave their time, those who pitched in on finances... and those, like Judy Vader, who gave of themselves as local educators.

Judy Bloch Vader passed away in September 2007 after a short battle with cancer, leaving a void among her family, friends, and the many students whose lives she touched at Saegert Middle School and the Mary B. Erskine Library. Her fellow teachers from the 1980s and '90s wanted to make sure her contributions were commemorated.

"When I received the brochure in the mail that offered the chance to purchase a star in someone's honor, I knew this was the perfect way to honor Judy's memory," Marilyn Anderson, Vader's friend and fellow teacher said.

Those who honored Vader include Candy Bagley, Kaye Edwards, Adele Herzstein, Candy Holmes, Nancy Kempf, Rebecca Marsh, Dee Pickelman, Gloria Reyna, Karen Sturm, Christa Strauss, Elizabeth Walker, Milton Witt, Nadine Petty, Marie Nisson, John Rabon, Cindy Rabon, Phillip Alaniz, Mike Fleming and Cassie and Darryl Huck.

Anyone who is interested in creating a similar memorial or in contributing to the restoration of the Texas Theatre may contact Steve Tschoepe, Task Force chair, at 401-1971.

Message from the President

Dear Fellow Conservationists,

July 4th 2008

When you hear the word "summer", most people think of the "lazy days of summer," but the 21-member Board of Directors has been anything but "lazy" this summer. The 4th of July Parade Party at the Texas Theatre was a huge success with over 70 people in attendance. Our Los Nogales Museum is open to the public every Sunday this summer from 2-5pm.

Many hours have been spent these last few months maintaining our properties. Several members of our Board have cleaned, painted, replaced rotting boards, fixed damaged historical markers, worked on sprinkler systems, and the list goes on. The Texas Theatre Task Force continues working hard on the capital campaign with construction to begin on the Theatre soon.

I invite you to come and celebrate with us at the Seguin Birthday Party on August 9. While you are there, take a look at the Doll House, enjoy the First Church, visit Los Nogales, tour the Log Cabin, and bring your favorite homemade ice cream for the contest. Come and enjoy the "lazy days of summer" with us!

Preserving Seguin Together,
Cristin Ledbetter, President
